Itinerary
Our journey begins and ends at Dibrugarh. We will start cycling from Tezu in the Lohit Valley, then climb upwards through dense forests towards the Eastern Himalayas and reach Anni on Day 7. The next day we transfer to Roing for the colorful Reh Festival and reach Dibrugarh on Day 10.
Day 1: Arrive at Dibrugarh, Transfer to Tezu
We will pick you up from the Dibrugarh airport/station, and drive you to Tezu, the district headquarters of Lohit. The tour leaders will brief you on the journey and all other necessary details. Overnight at camps/hotels.
Day 2: Cycle from Tezu to Roing, 70 km
We flag off the ride from Tezu. A 70 km ride through luxuriant plains will bring us to Roing, the district headquarters of the Lower Dibang Valley. On the way, there are some river crossings. Overnight in camps.
Day 3: Cycle to 40 km Camp, 40 km
The Mishmi Hills rise in glory once we leave Roing. The ascent is steep - you have to climb 1600 m to the campsite. As you climb higher, "Mithun Gates" become a common part of the landscape. Local tribesmen build these gates to prevent the mithun, domesticated bisons, from straying. Overnight in camps.
Day 4: Cycle to Hunli, 49 km
The day starts with a steady climb to Mayodia Pass. At 2743 m, this is one of the easternmost, driveable passes in the country. There might be some snow. Post the first 17 km, rest of the ride to Hunli is fairly downhill. Overnight in camps.
Day 5: Cycle to Karo, 60 km
Today is a tough day as we will have to climb numerous steep slopes. We go deep into the Dibang Valley today. Fairly large number of "Mithun Gates" mark the landscape. Overnight in camps.
Day 6: Cycle to Amboli, 65 km
Most of the day, we will cycle along the Dibang and Dri Rivers. The trail is marked with gravel and small landslides. It will probably be the most difficult day. Overnight in camps.
Day 7: Cycle to Anini, 10 km
A short, easy climb will bring us to Anini today. As we near Anni, the vegetation changes from mixed forests to forests of pine. The scenery has a touch of mysticism. Overnight in camps.
Day 8: Transfer to Roing
We will drive to Roing today for the Reh Festival. Overnight in camps
Day 9: Celebration of Reh Festival at Roing
We will join the Reh Festival of the Idu Mishmi tribe. Prayers are offered to Nanyi Initaya, the divine mother. Overnight in camps/hotels.
Day 10: Departure
We will depart for Dibrugarh today.
