The Panwali Kantha Trek was a mesmerising winter trek. Thick plumes of white snow covered the meadows. The mountains shimmered against sun-drenched blue skies. The dark forests had a smattering of snow. From the Panwali Kantha top, the skies glimmered with countless sparkling stars. It was freezing! We woke up to find our tents buried under icing-sugar like snow. The landscape --- the golden hues of the sun painting the pristine white if the snow --- was magical!
About Panwali Kantha Trek
The relatively unknown trek to Panwali Kantha is perfect for beginners looking for an easy, weekend trek. The trek is along the old pilgrimage route from Gangotri to Sri Kedarnath and offers the rarest views of the complete range of Yamunotri- Gangotri- Kedarnath- Badrinath mountain peaks. Prominent snow peaks like Thalay Sagar, Meru, Kirti Stambh, Kedar Dome, Kedarnath, Chaukhambha, Nilkanth, etc. are all visible during the trek. In the months of April-May, the trail is adorned with bright scarlet rhododendron blooms. Thick coniferous forests give away to expansive alpine meadows. In winter, the meadows and the slopes are blanketed under thick snow making this one of the best winter treks. One can spot high-altitude animals like Bharal (blue sheep), Ghoral, Himalayan bears, weasels and the rare musk deer.
