About Valley of Flowers & Hemkund Trek
Complementing the rugged mountain wilderness of the Kumaon Himalayas, the lush Valley of Flowers in the Pushpawati Valley of Uttarakhand is an ode in itself. Discovered by Col. Edmund Smyth, this valley draws numerous botanists, naturalists, photographers and tourists every year. Flowers mostly orchids, poppies, primulas, marigold, daisies and anemones carpet the ground. Sub-alpine forests of birch and rhododendron cover parts of the park's area. A variety of medicinal plants are also found here.
Hemkund Sahib is one of the most revered Sikh shrines. The star shaped gurudwara is located on the banks of the glacial Hemkund lake. Each of the seven mountain peaks that surround the lake is adorned by a Nishan Sahib on the cliff.
